The Friendly Skies – Local area board game enthusiasts Garth Bartlesby and Moncho “Junior” Sanchez are currently making history – in the future. On a recent red-eye flight from Miami, Florida to Memphis, Tennessee they successfully traveled through time not once, not twice, but three different times during the course of a single game of Jaipur.
“I was sitting there deliberating whether or not to trade in my two diamonds in order to snag the two 7’s or to hold out for another diamond to hopefully snag the 7’s and a bonus points token for turning in a set of 3 when I happened to glance at my watch,” recalls Sanchez.
“It was right at 11:59. I commented as much to Garth and we both chuckled as we realized our late night gaming session was about to become an early morning gaming session. And then it did.”
“And then, just a few minutes later the announcement came over the intercom that we just crossed the line from Eastern to Central Standard Time,” interjects Bartlesby. “It was a real Doctor Who moment if Doctor Who flew around in a T.A.R.D.I.S. with cramped seating, eating stale peanuts, and drinking watered down alcohol.”
Like Cinderella’s carriage, their early morning Jaipur session had just reverted back into its previous late night game state.
“It was truly a once in a lifetime occurrence,” Bartlesby says, “Assuming your lifetime spans only two or three minutes, and you happen to live it out on an airplane traveling from Miami to Memphis, that is.”
At this time, it is unknown whether Sanchez held out for another diamond.
